A young man was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after groping teen girls while they were washing their clothes at laundromats, prosecutors in New York said.
Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson announced that the 29-year-old Long Island man has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction in connection with the sexual abuse and other charges for groping and fondling teenage girls and young women in laundromats located in the Brownsville and Canarsie sections of Brooklyn.
“This defendant degraded and violated innocent women and young girls repeatedly with his lewd, vile and reprehensible conduct, which will affect his victims for years to come. Fortunately, he’s off the streets now and in prison, where he belongs,” District Attorney Thompson said.
Lowell Britt, 29, of East Third Avenue in Bay Shore, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Vincent Del Giudice, to a term of three years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision.
The judge ordered his sentence to run concurrent to the three years sentence he received in Queens, for a similar case. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender following his term of incarceration.
The defendant pleaded guilty to four counts of persistent sexual abuse, two counts of forcible touching, one count of second-degree sexual abuse, six counts of third-degree sexual abuse, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of public lewdness, two counts of exposure of a person and six counts of second-degree harassment.
He was also convicted of one count of third-degree sexual abuse following a bench trial before Justice Del Giudice.
According to the police investigation, the defendant approached eight victims in laundromats in Canarsie and Brownsville, and either rubbed against them, exposed himself or acted in some other inappropriate sexual manner.
In one incident, at a laundromat located in Brownsville, the defendant pushed a 19-year-old victim’s head into a dryer and forcibly rubbed himself against her. The victim screamed and the defendant fled.
In the second incident, at a laundromat in Bushwick, the defendant approached two sisters – ages 13 and 15, who were doing their laundry – and rubbed himself against them. He exposed himself before fleeing.
In the third incident, at a laundromat located in Bushwick, the defendant exposed himself and pleasured himself in front of a 13-year-old girl before fleeing.
The defendant was arrested by New York Police Department detectives assigned to the Brooklyn Special Victims Squad.
