However, rather than helping her, police officers arrested the victim.

Candy Gail Character of Dutton, Alabama, called police on Monday, to report domestic violence.

She told police officers that her husband had assaulted her and refused to let her leave the house for a couple of weeks.

Once inside the home, police found almost 70 marijuana plants, fertilizer, grow lights, planting soil, drug paraphernalia, 1 pound of marijuana and other items used to grow marijuana.

35-year-old Leonard Stephen Character and 43-year-old Candy Gail Character were arrested on multiple drug charges. They were arrested on charges related to trafficking and possession of controlled substances.

In addition to the drug charges, the husband was charged with domestic violence including strangulation and false imprisonment.

Candy Gail Character has been released on bail of $2,500 while Stephen Character is being held in the Jackson County Jail.
