Man kills his mother because she told him to get a girlfriend

A man was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly killing his mother because she urged him to find a girlfriend, police in Illinois said.

The Chicago Police Department said that they arrested 26-year-old Andre Brown of Southwest Side, after being accused of stabbing 54-year-old Damita Collins on Tuesday night, because she told him to find a girlfriend.

Brown stabbed Collins in the chest at the home that they shared in the 3500 block of West 77th Place.

The husband of Collins, was in the basement eating dinner and watching TV when he heard several loud noises around 9:00 p.m.

The husband went upstairs and discovered that the door of his bedroom was locked. After a few minutes, Brown opened the door, and the husband saw his wife laying on the floor in a pool of blood.

The man chased after Brown, but he managed to escape. The husband called police and tried to help his wife, but she died at the scene.

Investigators who arrived at the scene, recovered a bloody knife in the kitchen. Police arrested Brown on Tuesday. He had cuts on his hands and face, and blood on his hands, shoes and clothes.

Brown told detectives that he stabbed his mother during an argument because she belittled him and said he needed a girlfriend.

Brown appeared in court on charges of murder, and his bail was set at $1 million.
