(Scroll down for video) Four people in South Carolina, were arrested during a robbery spree after one of them shot himself in the leg.
A Aiken County Deputy Sheriff was responding to a call of a robbery at the Quality Inn in East Frontage Road about 10:30 p.m.
While on his way, the officer was flagged down by a car of people, asking for help after their friend was shot, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Eric Abdullah.
Meanwhile, other officers arrived at the Quality Inn, where they gathered information on the suspects and vehicle. The description of the car matched the one of the group of people, who have flagged down the officer on the road.
Officers said that David Dempsey, 27, of Williston, had entered the motel lobby armed with a gun and demanded money from the clerk. He got about $300.
While fleeing, Dempsey accidentally dropped something, which hit the gun, causing it to discharge, Abdullah said.
Dempsey then got into a red Ford Focus. He and three other suspects fled the scene. He was then taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police said that the group had committed several robberies at hotels across two counties in South Carolina, before they were caught.
Dempsey was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a controlled substance.
Police also arrested his accomplices, two woman and a man. Autum Cooper, 19, Breanna Dudley, 21, and Bradley Parrish, 25, were charged with armed robbery.
