(Scroll down for video) Police and family members desperately searched for their baby after a babysitter kidnapped her.

The child went missing in Nashville, Tennessee, and was later found in Alabama.

Police said that Javeele Thomas, 22, kidnapped 4-month-old Jalayia Gonzalez. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations issued an amber alert about the missing child and they described the color, make, model and license plate of the car.

The woman and the baby were found several hours later, more than 280 miles south of Nashville. The baby was in the car, which was driven by a man.

Gonzalez was found inside, and was said to be safe and well cared for.

The male driver was shocked by the allegations of kidnapping. He was under the impression that he was the child’s father.

Lineville Police Department Chief Monty Giddens said that Thomas had told her boyfriend that she was pregnant and that he is the baby’s father.

Thomas claimed that she lost the baby, but did not tell her former boyfriend about it. She later re-established contact with him, and informed him that she had given birth to his daughter.

Thomas then arranged to babysit Gonzalez, and to meet her boyfriend. He was happy to meet his daughter and was on the way to visit his family with her when he was pulled over by police.

After police were convinced that the man was not involved in the kidnapping, he was allowed to go free.

Thomas was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping. Her bail was set at $20,000.
