(Scroll down for video) Police are investigating a tragic accident, which led to the death of 5 people.
The Maryland State Police confirmed the fatal accident in Queen Anne’s County, in which 5 people died.
Three adults, two children and an unborn baby all died when a tractor-trailer overturned and landed on their car.
Police said that the family members were traveling from Virginia to Baltimore, Maryland, to visit relatives when their car was hit by the tractor-trailer near the Rt. 50 and Rt. 213 intersection around 1:30 a.m.
Zarissa Ayres, 30, had posted an invitation to her baby shower, which was supposed to be held that day at 1:00 p.m.
Ayres was traveling with her sister, Regina Ayres, 24, her sister’s boyfriend, Travis Straton, 24, and their two children, Jordan Ayres, 7, and 2-month-old Jonathan Ayres.
Zarissa Ayres, who was pregnant, was taken to a hospital, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. The rest of the family were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was identified as Yvenet Mayette, 28, of Delaware, was flown to a hospital for treatment.
The initial investigation found that the tractor-trailer fell on the family’s Suzuki Forenza on the passenger side. Police said that the trailer, which was loaded with 44,000 pounds of polyfiber, rolled on top of the family’s car.
Police said that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
