Police were called after a man was robbed and beaten.
The man of Holly Hill, Florida, was beaten and robbed in what police said was a drug deal gone bad.
However, police ended up arresting the victim after he was found with marijuana, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
At first, police searched the area, but they did not find the suspects. The victim, Casey France, 19, said that the suspects fled after stealing about $700.
France was charged with possession of 3.5 grams of marijuana. He was taken to a hospital for a cut to his forehead and two cuts on the back of the head, deputies said.
France was released from the Volusia County jail after posting $2,500 bond, according to court documents.
According to the arrest report, France called deputies about 9:00 p.m., saying that he was the victim of an armed robbery.
France said that he had picked up a friend who he knew only as Christian, to go to a party. However, Christian brought a friend along, and the two got into his Lexus SUV.
According to France, the friend who was sitting in the back, hit him in the back of the head and Christian hit him in the forehead.
France told officers that the men took $700 from the console of his truck and fled.
Deputies then asked France for his cellphone, and he complied. When a deputy began to go through his phone, France snatched it back.
France then stopped cooperating with deputies and began saying that he had constitutional rights, the police report stated.
While investigating the scene, officers allegedly found a vacuum-sealed bag, containing a large amount of marijuana.
He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
