A man is dead after testing the effectiveness of his new bullet proof vest, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, 40-year-old Ian Catley has been sentenced to serve 7 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter.

According to the police investigation, Catley shot Philip Harper in a field in Cambridgeshire, killing him almost instantly.

Harper had visited a military surplus store the day before the incident and was very interested to test the effectiveness of his new bullet proof vest.

However, the vest was protective and not bullet proof. Harper was shot at a distance of less than 20 feet, causing him immediate catastrophic injuries and death.

Harper was taken to a hospital, but unfortunately, nothing could be done to save his life. Catley and Harper were good friends.
