(Scroll down for video) A man was devastated to learn that he has an only son, who he never knew.

The 81-year-old man of Michigan, learned about his son, who he met recently for first time.

Tony Trapani of Grand Rapids, was cleaning some files after the death of his wife when he discovered a letter written over 50 years ago.
The letter was sent by his son’s mother. The woman wrote the letter to reveal that she had given birth to a son, and he was the father.

When his son, Samuel Childress, who is now 61 years old, was a child he was told that his father wanted nothing to do with him after Trapani did not respond to the letter.

However, the truth was that Trapani never received the letter, as his wife intercepted it and hid it for all these years.

Trapani said that his wife was unable to have children of her own, and therefore, she might have hidden the fact that he has a biological son.

Trapani still seems to resent his late wife’s decision, no matter what her motivation may have been.

Childress – who grew up in Pennsylvania, and had long ago resigned himself to the fact that he had been abandoned by his father – was happy to learn that he was not abandoned, but that his father never knew he existed.

“I always asked my mother what my father looked like,” Childress said.

“She said: ‘Well, go look in the mirror,’” he added.

While the two men are enjoying their time together, they are still planning a paternity test just to make sure this news is not too good to be true.
