(Scroll down for video) A cat in Canada, named Mittens, will undergo gender reassignment surgery after it was born with both male and female organs.
Mittens of Newfoundland, may seem like an ordinary house cat, but it is not.
Mittens was born a hermaphrodite, meaning it has both male and female organs.
Colleen Clarke-Murphy, the owner of the cat, said that her daughter brought home Mittens one day, thinking that it was a sick stray cat that had been abandoned by its owner.
The cat was taken to a local veterinarian, and after an examination, Clarke-Murphy received the bizarre diagnosis. Clarke-Murphy said her veterinarian recommended turning Mittens into a male cat.
The vet will perform reconstructive surgery once it is assigned a gender. The procedure will cost around $1,500.
