(Scroll down for video) Heroic firefighters saved the life of three young children by rescuing them from a burning home.

According to neighbors of the children in California, they were left home alone while their mother went shopping.

When she returned home, the mother found her home on fire. She broke a window in an attempt to get her children out safely, but she was unable to get to them.

A video released by the Fresno Fire Department, shows firefighters desperately trying to find the three children in the burning apartment.

Firefighters were called to the apartment after receiving reports of smoke, but upon arrival, they were informed that there were three children trapped inside.

The video contains footage from the helmets of two different firefighters. It shows them battling to locate two girls aged 3 and 4, and a one-year-old boy.

Glass can be heard breaking as firefighters call each other in the smoke filled home in a desperate race against time.

Within four minutes of their arrival, all children who were unconscious, were out of the home. They were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries due to smoke inhalation.

The three-year-old girl suffered burns on her hand.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed to have been caused by an electrical problem in an entertainment center.

The children are now in the care of Child Protective Services.
