A man was arrested on charges of sexual assault after kissing and squeezing a blind woman who thought that he was her boyfriend, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

According to the police investigation, 27-year-old Stephen Hayes of Plymouth, was partying at the Union Rooms club the night of the alleged attack.

At some point, he started slow dancing with the woman, who has a visual impairment.

The Plymouth Crown Court heard that the woman thought that he was another man, who she had hooked up with earlier in the evening.

When Hayes touched her under the clothes, the woman realized her mistake and pushed him away. The victim later filed a complaint with the police and Hayes was charged with sexual assault.

Police said that the woman was not drunk at the time of the incident.

Hayes claimed that he did not know that the woman was disabled, and he believed that what happened between them was consensual.
