A prostitute was arrested on charges of fraud after allegedly taking government benefits while earning thousands of dollars working as a prostitute, police in Japan said.

Kyoto Police said that they arrested the 41-year-old unidentified woman of Fushimi Ward on Thursday, after being accused of collecting welfare payments over a period of eight months while working as a prostitute.

According to the police investigation, the woman collected 870,000 yen ($7,391) in benefits over an eight month period while working for an escort service.

The suspect has allegedly earned more than 5 million yen ($42,480) while working as an escort.

In April, a married man pawned a wedding ring to cheat on his wife with a prostitute. South Carolina police said that they arrested Marvin Holmes, 33, after allegedly admitting to pawning his wedding ring to pay for a prostitute.

An officer stopped his vehicle in an area known to be frequented by prostitutes and drug dealers. The female passenger, Rhonda Kelley, 41, was recognized by the police as she has been arrested in the past for prostitution.

The driver, Holmes, allegedly told the officer that he decided to pick up a prostitute because he was having problems with his wife.

According to the police report, the prostitute told officers that Holmes did not have money with him, so they had gone to the Apache Pawn shop, where he pawned his wedding ring for $20.

Holmes was charged with solicitation of a prostitute and driving with a suspended license. Kelley was charged with solicitation of prostitution and possession of marijuana.
