(Scroll down for video) Police are looking to arrest a woman on charges of abandonment after allegedly giving away a newborn baby at Walmart, police in Colorado said.
Lakewood Police said that the newborn baby has since been dropped off at a fire station after the woman handed the baby to a couple, who was shopping at Walmart.
Around 8:00 a.m., the middle-aged couple left the baby at West Metro Fire Station 1.
The couple told firefighters that a woman gave them the newborn while they were shopping at Walmart located at West 14th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.
The baby was still covered with amniotic fluid, police said.
The baby appeared to be healthy, but firefighters and paramedics took the infant to a hospital to ensure that the child did not need medical attention.
The baby is still at the hospital. Police said that they do not know whether the woman who gave away the baby is the mother.
The couple is not related to the baby, police said. The mother of the child faces up to 26 years in prison if convicted of abandonment.
The couple does not face any charges since dropping off a baby at a fire station falls under a Safe Haven law, shielding them from prosecution.
