A man nearly died after falling asleep while drunk at the Niagara gorge, rescue workers in Canada said.
Niagara Parks Police said that alcohol was the likely factor in the man’s decision to take a nap on a small ledge at the top of the Niagara gorge early on Tuesday morning.
According to the police investigation, the man turned over in his sleep and fell about 60 feet into the water.
Around 6:00 a.m., Niagara Parks Police were notified by the New York State Park Police that a man was calling for help from the water.
Staff members of the Maid of the Mist also heard calls for help and alerted authorities. It took firefighters until around 8:30 a.m., to pull the man to safety.
Police said that the victim was conscious and talking to emergency services throughout the rescue. Fortunately, the man did not suffer life threatening injuries.
