A taxi driver was arrested, charged and convicted of sexual assault after raping women who fell asleep in the back of his car, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

52-year-old David Perry of Gayton House, Bow, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted rape, one count of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault.

According to the police investigation, the attacks took place in North London and East London, in the early hours of the morning against women in their 20s who had been out drinking before entering the defendant’s vehicle.

When the women awoke, they found the defendant on top of them. Police linked DNA from the crime to the same offender, but Perry was not on their database.

Perry was caught after his vehicle was identified as the place where the crimes occurred. Perry has been a taxi driver for 25 years, and the police appealed for other possible victims to come forward.

After pleading guilty, Perry was remanded into custody pending sentencing.
