A boy was arrested on charges of robbery after allegedly threatening to chop off a child’s fingers before stealing the mother’s BMW, police in Ireland said.

Now, a judge has ruled that the 16-year-old boy of Dublin, who was accused of being involved in the violent robbery, will face trial in Circuit Court rather than in Children’s Court in order to face a harsher sentence.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the incident. He is also accused of illegally traveling as a passenger in a stolen vehicle.

According to the police investigation, a group of knife-armed teens threatened to cut off the fingers of a woman in front of her son and said that they would do the same to the child if she does not show them where all her money is hidden.

The 30-year-old woman was home alone with her 10-year-old son when the incident unfolded around 8:00 a.m. She tried to hold her front door closed, but five teens gained entry and overpowered her.

They dragged her into the kitchen, where two or three boys tried to tie her hands with cable ties. One boy pulled a butcher knife and another pulled a meat cleaver.

The boys placed the woman’s hands on the kitchen table and threatened to cut her fingers while she was holding her child in her arms.

Then they threatened to do the same with the child after the woman and her son tried to flee. The boys left the home with a smartphone, an iPad, a laptop, a BMW car and 30,800 euros ($35,088).

The incident lasted about 20 minutes.
