A woman was charged and convicted of rape for the sexual assault of her granddaughter.

The woman of Daantji, Mpumalanga, South Africa, was arrested after her granddaughter was infected with HIV.

The 67-year-old grandmother was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Nelspruit Regional Court, for helping her boyfriend rape her 7-year-old granddaughter.

The incident came to light after the girl was infected with HIV.

The grandmother, who was not named to protect the identity of her granddaughter, pleaded not guilty to rape and conspiracy to commit rape.

However, she was found guilty of the charges. The grandmother was also infected with HIV by her boyfriend, but she told the court that she cured herself with the disease.

However, her poor health shows otherwise, Magistrate Andre Geldenhuys said during sentencing.

The court heard that the grandmother allowed her boyfriend to rape the girl, who is the child of her daughter, several times.

The judge also said that the fact that the grandmother showed no remorse over her actions led him to hand her long prison term of 10 years.
