(Scroll down for video) A drunk man who was combative with rescue workers, caught on fire after being shot with a Taser by police officers, police in Virginia said.
Chesterfield Police said that the incident unfolded when the man, who was driving drunk early on Sunday, was injured after losing control of his car and rolling over several times on a bridge.
According to the police investigation, an officer stopped a 2012 Volkswagen sedan on 7200 block of Jefferson Davis Highway on suspicion of driving under the influence.
As the officer approached, the driver accelerated and fled. The police officer pursued the driver, and after a few minutes, he lost control of the car.
The car rolled over several times, trapping the driver inside. After police and firefighters freed man from the rubble, he began to fight.
That is when an officer use his Taser to subdue the driver, but the man’s clothes caught on fire. Investigators believe that his clothes came into contact with gasoline during the crash.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and he was transported to VCU Medical Center. The drunk driver was alone in the car at the time of the incident.
