(Scroll down for video) A mother and her two-year-old daughter were rescued after getting their hands stuck in the mechanism of an escalator.

The accident occurred in a mall in China, when a man, who was also riding the escalator, accidentally dropped a suitcase and it fell onto the mother and daughter.

The mother stumbled and her daughter fell from her arms.

Surveillance video of the incident shows the mother, Liu Chao, 27, standing on the escalator with her daughter in her arms when they were hit from behind.

The girl tumbled down the escalator before her hand was sucked into the side of the mechanism. When her mother tried to rescue her child, her hand also got stuck in the mechanism.

A witness managed to stop the escalator before rescue workers arrived. A mall spokesperson said that it took rescue workers about 45 minutes to release the child’s left hand and the mother’s right hand.

Meanwhile, the man who had caused the accident ran away.

The mother and child were treated for shock, but had not suffered any serious injuries to their hands as a result of the incident.

They were taken to a hospital for observation, and were released the same day.
