(Scroll down for video) An 80-year-old woman became an Internet sensation after turning a courtroom into a comedy club.
Dolores Sheinis, 80, of Florida, captivated the entire courtroom when she appeared on charges of violating a 30-year-old order of protection and resisting arrest.
Sheinis stood before Judge John Hurley in Broward County, where she represented herself while waiting for her bond to be set.
The laughter began after Hurley told Sheinis that he did not want to put an 80-year-old woman in jail. However, this was her second arrest this month, for violating the protective order.
The judge asked the woman to stay away from her husband. “I have not bothered him for 31 years, since our divorce, why would I bother him now?” She asked.
“I swear to God and all that’s holy on a stack of Bibles that I will never go near him, talk to him, call him or even look at him,” she said.
When the judge asked her to repeat herself, the woman cracked a joke, poking fun of the judge.
Judge Hurley then asked the woman if she had ever considered doing standup comedy. “If you pay me good money, sweetheart, I’ll be there,” she replied. “I’m really short of funds,” she said.
Hurley responded: “Ma’am, I have to tell you something: You seem like you have a great wit about you.”
“I do, sir. Sweetheart, that’s the only thing I have,” Sheinis said. The judge then said that he had not been called sweetheart in the courtroom in a long time. “Does that mean that you will take me out for breakfast?” Sheinis asked the judge.
Still laughing, Judge Hurley then said: “You’ve brightened my day ma’am”, to which she replied: “That’s what the last guy said and then he sued me.” The entire courtroom burst out laughing.
Sheinis was ordered to wear an ankle monitor to make sure she complies with the order of protection.
