A woman was found hiding behind a tree after crashing a stolen car.
Gwynne Virginia Staples, 31, of Florida, led police on a chase before she crashed into a stop sign.
She then got out of the car and hid behind a tree. When officers approached the woman, she told them that she was not the one behind the wheel, according to the arrest report.
Staples told officers that the male driver fled on foot, according to police. She told officers that the two met at the Breakers Hotel in West Palm Beach, and that they left together in the man’s car.
Officers reviewed surveillance video at the hotel and saw that Staples was the one who got into the car that night and that she was in fact the driver.
Staples was charged with grand theft auto, eluding an officer, resistance and obstruction as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is being held in the Palm Beach County jail on $8,000 bail.
