A man was killed while trying to flee from police after shooting his former girlfriend.
Samori Walden, 44, of Florida, wanted to reunite with his former girlfriend, Jyrece McClendon, but when she rejected his advances, he shot her in the back, police said.
Walden appeared at McClendon’s residence unannounced in an attempt to reconcile, Boynton Beach Police spokesperson Stephanie Slater said.
However, McClendon was not interested in getting back together with him. After shooting the victim, Walden reportedly sped away in a blue Acura.
The Boynton Police and Broward County Sheriff’s deputies followed Walden in an attempt to arrest him.
The chase ended in Miami-Dade, when the Acura veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
Officers found that Walden had shot himself before the car went out of control.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not clear if he was killed by the bullet or from the impact of crashing into the tree.
The cause of death was still under investigation, police in Miami-Dade said.
McClendon was taken to a local hospital after the attack, and she is expected to recover, police said.
