Detective chokes girlfriend to death while she slept in his bed before telling police to look for her

A detective was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly choking his girlfriend to death while she was sleeping in his bed, police in Japan said.

Setagaya Ward Police said that they have arrested 25-year-old Yuta Hikichi, on suspicion of killing 24-year-old Yumiko Yamaguchi.

According to the police investigation, Hikichi strangled Yamaguchi in his office around 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, before calling police to report her missing.

Police said the couple met through Twitter, and have been together for several months.

Hikichi called police on Saturday afternoon, and said that Yamaguchi had not returned home and asked them to look for her.

However, when police officers arrived to his office, they found the woman laying in his bed. Hikichi told police that he flew into a rage during an argument with Yamaguchi about living expenses.

He said that he strangled her while she slept.
