(Scroll down for video) A police sergeant suffered serious injuries after being shot by a police officer who was trying to hit a dog, police in New York said.
The New York Police Department said that 28-year-old Officer Philip Longo, who was trying to shoot an out of control pit bull, accidentally shot the sergeant instead.
The officers were responding to reports of a dispute in an apartment in Brownsville around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the pit bull came running out of an apartment located on Kings Highway.
The officer fired his weapon at the dog, but it moved out of the way and hit the sergeant. 36-year-old Sergeant Jun Mei Zhang was taken to Kings County Hospital, after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
The dog was taken to Animal Care and Control.
