A mother of Florida, lost custody of her 3-year-old daughter after leaving her alone in a liquor store.
28-year-old Stefanie Felicia Stern is accused of abandoning her 3-year-old daughter in a liquor store while she went to hide her boyfriend’s firearm after he shot himself in the leg.
Police were called to the B21 Liquor store at 4591 N. Dixie Highway after the 3-year-old girl was found alone in the store.
Police reviewed surveillance video and saw Stern’s boyfriend, 34-year-old Reginald Leon Lee, arguing with a customer.
Lee then chased the man out of the store, and while fumbling with his pants, his gun went off.
He accidentally shot himself in the leg.
Police said that the couple ran to hide the gun, leaving the girl alone in the store.
Stern faces charges of child neglect without great bodily harm and tampering with evidence. Broward Judge John Hurley set her bail at $2,000.
Lee was taken to a hospital for treatment, but he was not charged in the shooting incident.
