A nurse who was trying to help a mental health patient, was stabbed as she was visiting his home along with a colleague, police in New Zealand said.
Manukau Police said that they arrested the 25-year-old mental health patient on Saturday night, after he allegedly stabbed the nurse who was working for the Counties Manukau District Health Board (DHB).
The DHB said that the incident occurred when the nurse and her colleague conducted a routine visit to the home in Otahuhu.
At some point during his treatment, the man pulled out a knife and the two nurses fled, but one of them was wounded on the way out.
The nurse was taken to a nearby hospital, where she received stitches for stab wounds and was released.
The DHB said that the attack was totally unexpected, and they are reviewing the case to see how to prevent such a thing from happening again in the future.
Counties Manukau Police said that the 25-year-old was arrested and will appear at the Manukau District Court on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
