(Scroll down for video) A dog burned to death and an apartment was destroyed after a jar of Nutella chocolate spread exploded, firefighters in the United Kingdom said.

The London Fire Brigade said that the home was badly damaged after the glass jar became heated from the sun.

The incident unfolded on Fielding Avenue in Twickenham. The blaze destroyed the first floor and also damaged the roof while the family members weren’t home.

Brigade fire investigators believe that the chocolate spread jar was placed on a window and the sun caused it to exploded.

Charlie Pugsley of the Brigade’s fire investigation unit said: “It sounds far fetched that a jar caused a severe house fire, but that’s exactly what happened. It’s worth spending five minutes checking that your window ledges are clear of any glass or crystal that might lead to a potentially life-changing blaze.”

Four fire trucks and 21 firefighters from Twickenham and Feltham responded to the scene on Sunday. Unfortunately, the family’s dog did not survive the blaze.
