A man received a fine for emotional violence after telling his wife “I don’t love you,” according to court documents in Turkey.
The husband and wife of Sanlıurfa, who filed for divorce in Family Court, are both seeking compensation from each other for the insults thrown around during their marriage.
The Family Court ruled that both were as bad as the other, and did not require anyone to pay compensation.
However, the Supreme Court of Appeals said that the man is guilty of emotional violence for saying “I don’t love you,” and ordered him to pay compensation.
The woman told the court that husband’s comment left her emotionally shattered, causing her to flee from the home.
The man denied the allegations of emotional violence, saying that his wife often cursed him, which caused him to suffer from anxiety.
