A teen was arrested on charges of murder after allegedly killing a young boy with a box cutter because he refused to swim naked in a river, police in Japan said.
Kanagawa Police said that they have arrested the 18-year-old man after being accused of killing the 13-year-old boy, whose naked body was found at the Tama River.
The 18-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys were arrested on Friday over the death of Ryota Uemura. The 17-year-old boys admitted their involvement in the murder.
The 18-year-old man told investigators that he killed Uemura, because he refused to shoplift.
Before killing Uemura, the 18-year-old said that he also ordered him to swim naked in the river as a punishment, and when he refused, he picked up a box cutter and killed him.
The three suspects were identified through street surveillance cameras, which showed them walking with Uemura to the river.
The video showed them walking back from the river without the victim. The victim’s clothes and shoes were burned in a public toilet a few blocks from where the body was found.
