(Scroll down for video) A mother was arrested, charged and convicted of manslaughter after starving her young son and leaving his dead body in her home for 2 years, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, 43-year-old Amanda Hutton was sentenced to serve 15 years in jail. Hutton, who is an alcoholic, was sentenced at the Bradford Crown Court, for the death of her son Hamzah.

Police found the woman’s 4-year-old son in a mummified state in his bed. The court had heard that Hamzah was decomposed and insects covered his body.

Photographs of the house showed clothes and trash piled up in several rooms. The boy’s five siblings, aged between 5 and 13, lived with pizza boxes, used diapers, bottles of vodka and cat feces.

Doctors said that Hamzah died after not receiving adequate nutrition over a long period of time, in other words, he died of hunger.

Hutton was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter, three years for child cruelty and two and a half years for preventing the burial of Hamzah.

The final 2 and a half years will be served concurrently. Hutton, a mother of eight, told the court that she pressured her son to eat and he died suddenly.

She said that she never sought medical advice because she thought Hamzah was going through a phase and will eventually grow out of it.

She said that she was frightened after his death and continued to claim the child welfare payments for Hamzah because she was worried that if she stopped, his body would be discovered.

She also said that she was concerned that her other children would be taken away if the death of Hamza was discovered.
