A thief who was upset about being sentenced to serve 18 months in prison, took out his fake eye and threw it at his lawyer in court, police in Canada said.
The incident unfolded while attorney John Hale of Ottawa, was representing his client in court on Friday.
The thief, who lost his left eye to cancer while in prison, removed the prosthesis and threw it at the lawyer. Hale caught the eye after bouncing once on the table in front of them.
32-year-old Jesse Whitlock, who steals to feed his drug addiction, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He served about 102 days in custody before being sentenced and was credited for 153.
Whitlock believed that he deserved more credit and became angry. Hale gave the fake eye to police for fear that his client, who has mental health problems, will flush it down the toilet in protest.
Whitlock lost his eye after developing an aggressive rare form of cancer while serving time in jail for an unrelated crime. Whitlock was in jail for stealing a car and leading police on a chase.
