A man was arrested on charges of extortion after threatening to publicize his partner’s nude photos if he does not pay him $20,000 police in China said.
Shanghai Police said that the suspect identified as Zhang, is accused of threatening to publish compromising pictures of his gay lover, who was identified as Chen, unless he was paid a total of 121,600 yuan ($19,400).
Investigators said that Chen agreed to pay the money because he did not want his family to discover that he was gay.
In May, a woman in Virginia, offered to sell herself for $200 – and pastor Chris Allen Phillips, 50, agreed.
However, Tonya Farnsworth hatched an evil plan. She set up cameras in her rented apartment, which recorded the two in the act.
She then called Phillips, who was a youth pastor at Mechanicsville Advent Christian Church, and threatened to release the sex videos if he did not give her money. Over the next three months, she called him and sent threatening text messages, demanding money.
The pastor paid her $85,000 from his own money, but she was not satisfied. Farnsworth wanted more money.
That is when the pastor started embezzling money from the church to pay off the woman. He was accused of taking over $87,000 from the church. She received a total of $176,432.12 – according to court documents.
The pastor was arrested and pleaded guilty to embezzlement. He will be sentenced later this year.
The woman was arrested after police found that all the stolen money went out of state to her boyfriend. They also saw her threatening messages. She was charged with extortion.
She was sentenced to 10 years in prison with seven years suspended plus 30 years probation.
