A 7-year-old boy caused panic and a large search operation after he went missing from his bed at 10:00 p.m.
McCauley Stratford of Foxton, New Zealand, began sleepwalking last year. However, he never left his house.
One night, his parents went to check on him and saw that he was missing from his bed. They called police, who began an all night search with as many as 50 volunteers.
Police said that the boy walked out of his second story bedroom window and he fell 13 feet, breaking his leg.
However, despite the pain, the boy did not wake up. He managed to walk into a neighbor’s home and crawled into a boy’s bed.
The search began at 10:00 p.m. and ended 5:00 a.m. when the child woke up and found that he had an unexpected companion in his bed.
The boy alerted his aunt to the stranger in his bed. The woman called police and Stratford was finally reunited with his family.
Stratford was taken to a hospital where he was fitted with a cast to his broken leg. His parents thanked all the volunteers and promised to take their son to a specialist. They will also place locks on all their windows.
