Overweight train passengers in the United Kingdom, were shocked to hear an announcer tell them not to sit down due to lack of space.
Now, the train operator has apologized after the station announcer told fat people to remain standing.
The incident unfolded on the train that was heading to Basingstoke, Hampshire. The announcer allegedly said that since the train is packed like a sardine can only thin people should sit down.
One overweight passenger said that even thin people do not fit in the small train seats so it is not fair to single out fat people.
South West Trains apologized, saying that the comments were unacceptable.
“All passengers are welcome on board our trains,” said a spokesperson. The company said that they are in the process of adding additional space to the trains.
