(Scroll down for video) A father is angry that his daughter was able to access adult photos and videos on her school computer.
Now, the two third-grade students of the Sunnycrest Elementary School in Washington, have been suspended for their actions.
School district spokeswoman Jamie Taylor said that the girls bypassed the Internet filtering software on the school’s laptop and shared the explicit pornographic images with other students during class.
According to the district, the school computer system subscribes to filtering software that blocks certain content such as pornography, gambling and obscenities.
“The 8-year-old girls were able to watch adult content because of a change in the search engine that had not been updated by the filtering software company,” the school said.
The district said that it stands by its decision to suspend the two girls because instead of alerting their teacher, they shared the images with other students.
Austin Maxwell, the stepfather of one of the girls, is not happy with the decision. He said that parents lock their home computers and they monitor closely what their children do online.
However, the school did not do that, and his daughter was able to access adult content from her classroom.
Computer use has been suspended until Sunnycrest computers can be cleaned of pornographic images and the updated filtering software is tested.
