A man who wanted to smuggle his wife into Poland, squeezed her into a suitcase as he approached border patrol agents, police said.
The man of France, tried to smuggle his wife, who is a citizen of Russia, into the European Union by hiding her in a huge suitcase despite the fact that he was able to bring her into the country legally.
Border guards arrested the 60-year-old man at the railway station in Terespol. The size of the luggage drew the suspicion of agents.
When agents opened the suitcase, they found a 30-year-old woman inside. She appeared in good health and did not need any medical attention.
The couple, who had been taking the train from Moscow, Russia, to Nice, France, were released after questioning. They decided to return to Belarus.
Spouses of EU citizens are allowed to enter if they can prove their marital status. Instead, the couple risked a jail sentence of three years due to their attempt to evade border control.
