A man broke into a beachfront home and claimed that he and Mariah Carey own it.
Police were called to the 100 block of White Avenue at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, after neighbors spotted a strange car in the driveway and heard loud music coming from the house.
Police discovered a broken window and 35-year-old Jason Lowell James inside, drinking a Bud Light while dancing to music, police said.
When confronted, James said he was part owner of the beachfront home with Mariah Carey. He also claimed that he lived there for the past 17 years.
James caused about $2,150 in damages to windows, doors and wooden floors, according to a police report.
The home is currently owned by the ATEM partnership and is valued at $1.9 million. James was not authorized to be on the property.
James was charged with burglary to an unoccupied dwelling and grand theft or damage of an amount greater than $1,000. He is being held at the Manatee County jail on $27,500 bond.
