A woman was abducted by an angry mob and burned to death after being accused of killing a young boy through witchcraft, police in South Africa said.

The incident unfolded in Pretoria.

The woman was burned alive while her husband managed to escape from the angry mob after police intervened. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital after suffering severe burns to his body.

The woman moved to the country from Zimbabwe, in search for a better life. The incident took place on Friday, after days of tensions triggered by the death of an eight-year-old boy.

The couple had been accused of killing the boy by witchcraft. Police detectives however, revealed that the child had been electrocuted.

Three people were arrested for the murder of the woman.

They are facing charges of public violence because there were 500 people and more evidence is needed to accuse the three of murder.

An angry mob attacked the police station on Sunday night, demanding the release of the three suspects, saying that the woman and her husband deserved to die.
