(Scroll down for video) A mother was devastated to learn that her son died in prison after she turned him in to authorities.
The grieving mother of England, revealed how she feels responsible for her son’s death in a suspected suicide while he was in jail.
Sharron Lewis, 50, of Bournemouth, called police after she recognized her son in a wanted photo released by officers.
The son, Sheldon Woodford, 24, was seen in the photo mugging a 90-year-old woman.
Lewis said that she thought she was doing the right thing by turning her son in to police after he attacked Betty Aldworth and knocked her down to the ground, which left her with knee and shoulder injuries.
Lewis said that her son was addicted to drugs. She wanted him to get help while in prison and she did not want him to hurt another person.
However, Lewis said that although she felt she did the right thing by handing him over to police, she blames herself after her son was found hanging in his cell in Winchester, Hampshire.
Woodford, a father of one child, has nine previous convictions for 26 offenses, including five robberies.
