Earlier this week, a police officer of California, was arrested after attempting to smuggle an illegal immigrant into the United States.

The Los Angeles police officer was arrested at the border between the U.S. and Mexico, when he allegedly tried to smuggle the Mexican into the country in the trunk of his car.

34-year-old Carlos Curiel Quezada Jr., and a 31-year-old woman were busted at the Otay Mesa, border crossing on Saturday evening, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Police said that around 6:30 p.m., the couple went to the initial checkpoint and were ordered to go for a secondary inspection.

Quezada and the woman were charged by the federal government with bringing a person into the country without presenting them to an immigration officer.

Both Quezada and the woman were released from prison after posting $20,000 bail.

Quezada, who is reportedly a 10-year veteran assigned to the Hollywood Division, was also placed on paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation by the LAPD.
