(Scroll down for video) A police officer was arrested, charged and convicted of assault after pouring boiling water on her husband, following a dispute over money, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

Now, the woman has been sentenced to serve 4 years in jail after leaving her husband with first and second-degree burns on his body.

65-year-old Ken Gregory was attacked by his wife, 60-year-old Teresa Gilbertson, in their home in Peterborough, after he told her he wanted a divorce.

The retired worker suffered blisters to 14 percent of his body, extending from his scalp to lower back. Doctors believe that some of his scars will never disappear.

Prosecutors told the Peterborough Crown Court, that the marriage had become extremely tense and had underlying difficulties related to money.

Teresa Gilbertson had unrealistic expectations about her husband’s finances. The woman was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

She was ordered to stay away of Gregory. Gilbertson had claimed that the incident was an accident. The court also heard that three weeks before the incident, the woman poured hot tea on him while he slept.

The couple is now in the process of divorcing.
