A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of assault after pouring drain cleaner on a grass cutter because the noise annoyed her, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.

As a result of the attack, the gardener will remain scarred for life after the woman threw sulfuric acid in his face.

53-year-old Derek Mahoney was cutting grass in Hackney, when tenant 54-year-old Jacqueline Pocket doused him with drain cleaner.

His colleagues and neighbors poured water and milk on the victim, who was screaming for help. He lost three layers of skin to the head, neck, face and back.

He spent months receiving treatment in a specialized unit. Pocket was sentenced to unlimited hospitalization after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

Mahoney said that he was angry and disappointed that the woman did not receive a jail sentence. Pocket told the London Crown Court, that the victim was using a machine outside her door to mow the lawn.

He was there for a while before she just put something in a cup and threw it. When asked what was in the cup she said: “It was drain cleaner.”

When asked why she did it, she replied: “The noise goes on my nerves. They think they can do whatever they want.”
