A teen was arrested on charges of kidnapping after kidnapping his younger brother in order to extort a car from his father, police in Nigeria said.

Bauchi Police said that they arrested 19-year-old Salisu Salmanu, after being accused of conspiring with his three friends to kidnap his three-year-old brother.

He demanded N10 million ($50,000) ransom from his father.

Salmanu, a student at the Federal Polytechnic, was arrested along with Imrana Abdullahi, 17, Abdullahi Mohammed, 19, and 19-year-old Umar Musa.

The suspect told investigators that he planned to buy a new car with the cash and spend the remaining amount on other goods.
