(Scroll down for video) A little girl in Florida, said that she was reprimanded instead of receiving praise for protecting a child from a bully.
The Samuel Gaines Academy student was suspended this week, after recording her teacher as she was bullying another student.
11-year-old Brianna Cooper said that instead of receiving praise, she was suspended for five days. The principal claimed that recording a teacher in class is against the rules.
After one of her science teachers was being rude to a student, she took out her cellphone and recorded her teacher.
In the recording, the teacher is heard saying: “You’re the biggest kid in fifth grade and you’re acting like the smallest. I wonder what your mother looks like.”
Cooper gave the recording to a teacher. Later, she was summoned to the principal’s office and suspended. Cooper was told that recording without the teacher knowing is against the law.
Police however, said that recording someone without their knowledge can be legal as long as there is no expectation of privacy.
