(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested after sexually assaulting a boy while his mother sat nearby.
48-year-old Kevin Matthew is accused of molesting the 3-year-old boy who was sitting next to him on a Delta Air Lines flight from Chicago, Illinois, to San Diego, California, with a layover in Utah.
The boy was on the plane with his parents and his sister, but the family was not able to sit together because they were flying standby.
The 3-year-old boy was placed in the center row next to Matthews, while his mother sat in the same row, but across the aisle in the center seat.
She was initially worried about the boy sitting alone, but relaxed when she saw that Matthews was being kind and helpful to her child.
The mother said that she was unable to see what happened between Matthews and her son because there were two women sitting between her and her son.
During the flight, Matthews let the child play with his iPad and iPhone, witnesses said.
However, during the flight, when the boy fell asleep, a woman witnessed Matthews holding his open hand in the groin of the sleeping child.
When she confronted Matthews, he denied doing anything wrong and removed his hand from the child. The woman called a flight attendant and told the boy’s mother what she witnessed. The boy was placed on his mother’s lap and Matthews was arrested during the layover in Salt Lake City.
He was charged with abusive sexual contact and his bail was set at $10,000. He was ordered to have no contact with minors and he is forbidden to fly without permission.
