A police officer was arrested, charged and convicted of murder after killing a tourist who stayed at his bed and breakfast because he wanted to eat his body parts, prosecutors in Germany said.

Now, a court in Dresden has sentenced the police officer to 8 years and six months in prison for killing the man he met on a cannibalism website.

57-year-old Detlev Guenzel was found guilty of murder motivated by sexual lust and disturbing the peace of the dead. Guenzel was accused of killing 59-year-old Wojciech Stempniewicz of Poland, a business consultant.

Guenzel killed Stempniewicz at the bed and breakfast he operated near Czech border. According to the police investigation, Guenzel cut the body of the victim inside a murder chamber that he built in his cellar.

He buried the remains in his garden. Guenzel is a father of three adult children.

The judge gave the defendant a light sentenced because the court learned that Stempniewicz wanted to be killed as part of a sexual fantasy.

The website on which the defendant and the victim met, has over 3,000 registered users. Guenzel was a police officer for more than 30 years.

At the time of the murder, Guenzel was married to his male partner. He has since divorced.
