(Scroll down for video) A father was arrested, charged and convicted of inciting a child under 14 years old for sexual activity after marrying off his 12-year-old daughter to a 27-year-old man so that she does not sin, prosecutors in Australia said.
The 63-year-old father was convicted following a trial of intentionally procuring a 14-year-old girl for unlawful sexual activity and incitement.
The man had pleaded not guilty, claiming that he had not consented to it and did not know that his daughter’s husband will have sex.
The judge ruled that when the girl had reached puberty, the father decided to marry her because he believed that having sex outside marriage was a sin.
When the 27-year-old man approached the father in a mosque and indicated that he was interested in his daughter, the father arranged for the couple to exchange phone numbers, and allowed telephone calls and text messages over the next week.
When the relationship developed between the couple, the man indicated that he wished to marry the 12-year-old girl. The father not only consented to the marriage, but organized the wedding ceremony to be held at his home.
The father encouraged the couple to have sex, and arranged for the couple to spend their wedding night at a motel. When the couple came to stay at the father’s home, he gave them a room where they could sleep together.
The father also told his daughter not use any form of birth control and not allow her husband to use a condom.
