The stray dog was hit by a car before being slammed in the head with a hammer in a misguided mercy killing attempt.

The dog was buried after it appeared to be dead.

Four days after the burial, the dog managed to stagger to a nearby farm, where it was found by a worker who took it to a vet for help.

That black and white dog called Theia, has been receiving medical care at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Theia is only a year old, and suffered a dislocated jaw, leg injuries and a sinus cavity.

The dog still requires surgery to help it breathe. An organization helped pay for some of the treatment. A fundraising website was setup to help cover the remaining cost of the dog’s treatment.

A Facebook page was also created to keep supporters updated. All remaining funds will be used to treat other sick animals.
