A man was arrested and charged with sexually abusing his wife.
The 78-year-old Iowa politician is accused of sexually abusing his wife after doctors said she was no longer mentally capable of legally consenting to having sexual relations.
Henry Rayhons was widowed, when he married his wife, Donna Lou, 78, seven years ago. The couple loved each other and led an active lifestyle until Donna Lou’s health began deteriorating.
Last year, Donna Lou’s daughters from a previous marriage decided to move their mother, who suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, to a nursing home, even though Henry did not agree with the decision.
Despite being told that Donna Lou could not consent to sex, Rayhons allegedly had sex with her while visiting her at the nursing home.
Henry was charged with third degree sexual abuse just days after his wife died.
After the charges were filed, the family of Henry released a statement saying: “Donna’s location did not change Dad’s love for her nor her love for him. It did not change their marriage relationship.”
Henry allegedly confessed to having sexual contact with his wife at the nursing home. However, he believes that the act was consensual.
